旅行ガイドなどではブルージュと並び称されて、「古都」などと持ち上げられていることもありますが、暗い感じの町でした。現地で会った日本人観光客にブルージュとゲントのどちらか一つしか時間がないが、どちらがよいかと聞かれたときには、ブルージュ即答でした。ただし、ゲントの中心部で駐車スペースを探してうろうろしていたときに、パトカーから職務質問（？）されたことも、私の悪印象に拍車をかけているかもしれません。
Some guidebooks recommend Gent just like Brugge as "Aincient City." However, it was rather gloomy for me. When I was asked by Japanese tourists which city was better to visit, I instantly answerd "Brugge!" However, you might wish to discount my impression as I may be prejudiced by the event that I was inquired by a policeman while I was wandering in the city center looking for a vacant parking lot.
