韓国での英語の通用度は日本と同じくらいと聞きましたが、本当にそのとおり、通じないですね。観光ポイントの駅員さんなどは英語の分かる人を配置しているのだろうと淡い期待をしていましたが、見事に裏切られました。市場の売り子さんたちは日本語で近寄ってきますが、外国の店で日本語で話しかけられると、鴨にされてるなと身構えてしまいますし．．．（経験則とはいえ、悲しい習性）
I heard Korean people spoke English as INfluently as Japanese people. It was damn true! I wished they assigned English-speaking personnel at stations around touristic points, only to get disappointed. On the other hand, many sellers approached me speaking Japanese on market streets, which only made me cautious because those guys often regard Japanese tourists as nothing but good preys.
